India Thailand ties to be strengthened

New Delhi, Dec 27: In a bid to improve connectivity and free trade relations, India?s External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and his Thai counterpart Surapong Tovichakchaikul co-chaired the sixth joint commission meeting between the two countries in New Delhi on Tuesday.Signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Tovichakchaikul and Krishna also discussed the provisions of the extradition treaty and a mutual legal assistance treaty.Meanwhile, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra would be the guest of honour at India?s Republic Day celebrations next year. It would be the seventh visit of Thai Prime Minister to India since 2001.Tovichakchaikul, on his first visit to India since taking office in July this year would also meet Vice-President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.It was last year in November that Prince Mahavajiralongkorn, the crown prince of Thailand visited India.In an endeavour to strengthen the bilateral relations, Princess Mahachakri visited India in March 2011 and again visited in October.According to a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs, Tovichakchaikul?s visit re-assures the priority given by both the countries to their relations as they continue to regularly hold high-level talks.In the last decade trade between the two nations had grown exponentially crossing the 6.6 billion dollar mark in 2010 and is expected to touch 10 billion dollar this year.
