Rockburst Pearl easily wins his Ladbrokes Puppy Derby first round heat at Monmore
Monmore hosted six electrifying first round heats of The Ladbrokes Puppy Derby?on Thursday, March 01, 2012. The excitement began with the opening heat at 19:22 (GMT).
The first clash saw King Bradley sealing a comprehensive victory over the 5 to 4 favourite, Bubly Phoenix.?After grabbing an early lead, the black dog quickly extended his advantage, imposing a convincing two and a quarter lengths defeat on P. Young?s white and black dog.
Heat two was dominated by Alien Planet, trained by S. Mason. The blue dog was holding the lowest odds of 12 to 1, but he surprised everyone by showing a terrific show all the way through.
Showing superb determination, the August-10 youngster managed to keep his rivals under pressure, crossing the wire in 28.18 seconds.
The third heat belonged to J. Mullins? Manic Scolari. The blue dog outclassed 7-4 joint favourites, Confident Rankin and Daddy Knowsbest.
While the rest of the pack got crowded in the middle, Droopys Scolari?s son out of Tullig Woods held decent speed to wrap up the party in 28.14 seconds.
In the fourth heat, Smart Bid displayed a fantastic performance to top the chart. After being crowded early on, the black dog made an excellent comeback to become prominent.
After running neck to neck with his rivals, C. Allsopp?s trainee changed his gear when it mattered most. A strong finish guided him to short head distance win over Guiness Dusty.
Fifis Legend, who was carrying the highest odds, could not complete his run, as he fell at the first bend.
The fifth heat saw Rockburst Pearl clinching the easiest victory of the evening. An early pace helped her take a reasonable lead that the black bitch sustained till the finish.?The M. Dartnall-trained thrashed Pinewood Express by staggering nine and a quarter lengths.
In the last of six eliminators, Newlawn Rocket recorded the best finishing time of the evening. The black dog took only 28.11 seconds to cross the wire, winning the contest by three lengths.
