NBA Summer League: Gonzaga Watch

The Orlando Summer League is getting ready to close the books on its second year of play, which will mean Kelly Olynyk's first array onto a professional court will come to an end.

It's been a successful showing for Olynyk thus far, but he isn't the only player with local ties that has been in action. That list only grows as the NBA community turns its attention to the Las Vegas Summer League.

Here is more from Gonzaga on its former players in action this summer.

SPOKANE, Wash.?? With the 2013 NBA Orlando Summer League winding down, four former Gonzaga University players turn their attention to the 22-team 2013 NBA Las Vegas Summer League beginning Friday.

Two former Zags will be teammates once again as Elias Harris, who graduated this past season, and Robert Sacre, a 2012 graduate, are on the Los Angeles Lakers roster. Sacre just signed a new contract with the Lakers Wednesday. The native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, started three of his 32 appearances with the Lakers last season, averaging 1.3 points and 1.1 rebounds. Sacre also spent time with the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA's D-League during his rookie season. He was selected by the Lakers in the second round of last year's NBA draft.

??

Harris, who didn't get selected in this year's NBA Draft, will try to gain a training camp invite. If he doesn't sign with an NBA team the native of Speyer, Germany, is expected to land a deal overseas.

??

Micah Downs, who played this week with Indiana in the Orlando Summer League, will swap his Magic jersey for a Toronto Raptors jersey when he gets to Las Vegas. Downs, from Kirkland, Wash., was averaging 6.5 ppg through Wednesday's games in Orlando.

??

Josh Heytvelt, a 2009 graduate, will be with the Cleveland Cavaliers in Las Vegas. Heytvelt, form Clarkston, Wash., has spent the past two seasons in Turkey, playing for KK Zagreb his first season and Tofus SC this past season.

??

Heytvelt, Sacre and Harris will all be on the court at the same time Friday when Cleveland faces the Lakers at 5 p.m. Other Friday games in Las Vegas have New York meeting New Orleans, Atlanta tackling the Los Angeles Clippers and Charlotte going against San Antonio. Games in Las Vegas will be played at both Cox Pavilion and Thomas and Mack Center.

??

A new format in Las Vegas this season has all 22 teams playing three games with the teams then seeded by record into a 22-team, double-elimination tournament until a champion is crowned July 22.

??

Meanwhile, Kelly Olynyk has continued to catch everyone's attention in Orlando this week with his play for the Boston Celtics. Through Wednesday's games he was averaging 19.5 ppg to tie for the Orlando Summer League lead and was averaging 8.0 rpg to rank fourth. Olynyk was the 13th pick of the NBA Draft last month by the Dallas Mavericks who traded his rights to Boston.
